Africa Our Home is an organization that offers internship placement, volunteering opportunity and tour packages for American and other foreign students, religious and social groups who want to experience life and work in Africa. Africa Our Home offers exceptional internship placements and volunteering opportunities for American and other foreign students, as well as religious and social groups seeking to experience the vibrant African culture. Our carefully curated programs are available in captivating destinations in Ghana, Togo, and Benin. Public Health Internship Placement
Public Health Internship Placement

Participants will shadow public health nurses and assist with health education outreach. The most common health issues are HIV/AIDS, STDs/STIs, malaria and tuberculosis. Other issues include teen pregnancy, family planning practices (breastfeeding) and sanitation. Participants also have the opportunity to work with Public Health NGO's where their main role will be to prepare materials and assist with health education events in Schools and Communities.

Ghana's Climate Intervention

This program is ideal for students as “degree requirements in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs often require students to conduct or assist in human subjects research (CITI 2017).” Participants will receive a basic overview of ethical principles and guidelines they must follow for protecting human subjects. Participants will conduct interviews and administer surveys to learn how sea-level rise has impacted this community. Participants will collaboratively compile their results and develop an avenue to share the Keta Story

Tracing the road of those enslaved: an epic journey to West Africa

The purpose of this program is to explore the history and culture of the people who were enslaved and transported from Africa to America. Students participating in the program gain a deeper understanding of slavery's impact on modern-day Africa and have the opportunity to collaborate with local communities and organizations. They will also brainstorm ideas on addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Africa and building a better future for themselves and others.

Public Health Internship Placement
Public Health Internship Placement

Our public health internship program works in partnership with the government of health facilities. Each facility supports outreach in approximately 20 communities in their respective districts. The Public Health division of each health facility reaches out to communities and individuals in their homes and educates them on health preventive measures. They provide treatment to some patients under certain conditions, undertake disease surveillance, immunization, and family planning.

Launched in 2014 Africa Our Home (AOH) is a third-party service provider of customized internships and university group programs. With nearly a decade of experience facilitating programs in Ghana and in Togo, West Africa, the AOH staff understands the ins-and-outs of facilitating faculty-led group programs and working with people from diverse background.

Ghana is a safe and stable democratic country. Considered, “Africa for Beginners”, Ghanaians are infamous for their hospitality and friendliness. It’s common for participants to state they feel safer in Ghana than in many other locations around the world.

We work in under-resourced RESILIENT communities. They are rightly concerned about the future of theses communities. By sharing their stories you help shed light on an issue of global significance which is also advocacy for more resources to support these communities.
